I pulled the trigger on the 135mm f/2, should show up on Monday...I've been eyeing if for a while now, with the first blog mention in April 2008 and the first serious mention of the lens as a potential purchase in Nov 2009. One of the best and most popular Canon lenses out there, see for instance this Flickr thread. Better on a full frame than a crop sensor, but so what, I'll end up with a full frame at some point. I can cope without IS, other have as well. I'll get to IS when it's an option, but I might as well use the lens as is, without IS.
I am also getting a viewfinder diopter (with -3 diopter, since there doesn't appear to be a weaker version available....it would be nice to have -1 or -0.5, since that would allow me to use the viewfinder both with and without glasses -- my right eye is a tad above -3 and the diopter adjustment dial runs from -3 to +1) and a eyepiece hood, maybe a Canon manual focusing screen. Katzeye makes manual focusing screens as well, not clear if they are worth the higher price (and they don't make them for full frame Canon bodies, but there are other firms out there as well like Hoada, currently backlogged due the the Japan earthquake). And there are issues with metering for non-OEM (and OEM?) manual focus screens.
One issue is that with aperatures smaller than f/2.8 manual focusing screens cause problems and I do have the 70-200mm f/4 IS. So I'll probably stick with my current stock focusing screen and see how I can manually focus with it once I can actually see it with the diopter and eyepiece hood.
Below the 135mm f/2 on a Canon 40D with battery grip...I am pre-buying a full frame lens here, the 135mm f/2 is not meant to be permanently paired with my 40D. BTW, I've never used a battery grip, not clear to me it's that useful, but lots of people seem to find them very useful for hand holding. I'd use that lens hood, if just for protection.
