Research is underming my attempt to buy some camera equipment. It seems the Canon 1.4x extender is only so-so with the 70-200mm f/4 IS lens I have and mostly useful for longer focal length lenses I don't have, so I'm not going to buy the extender now. All other lenses I'm eyeing don't make sense if I don't have a full frame camera yet -- and the 5DIII may still take a while to show up -- or have upgrades that should show up either this year (the 35mm f/1.4) or 2012 or 2013 (the 135mm f/2). The current version of the 135mm might make sense, but I do want wait for the upgrade as well.
So there's nothing to do than to wait for the 5DIII and then get the Zeiss 21mm f/2.8 and probably one more lens. And the new version of the 24-7mm f/2.8, potentially with IS? The Zeiss 100mm macro would make sense to...so yes, no reason to spend any money now. Lenses over 200mm remain totally unaffordable.
Still, maybe the 135mm f/2 would make sense?
Update #1 (April 28): still tempted by the 135mm f/2 -- who needs IS? But I would have to shoot with shutter speeds of 1/320s or above or use my tripod. I don't see such a sharp lens performing hand held at 1/200s.
Update #2 (April 29): I pulled the trigger on the 135mm f/2...I've been eyeing if for a while now. One of the best and most popular Canon lenses out there, see for instance this Flickr thread. Better on a full frame than a crop sensor, but so what, I'll end up with a full frame at some point. I can cope without IS, other have as well. I'll get to IS when it's an option, but I might as well use the lens as is, without IS. And IS may not be available until 2013. I can sell this lens then, loosing a few hundred dollars, but having the lens in the meantime.
Also getting a viewfinder diopter and a eyepiece hood, maybe a manual focusing screen.
