via the NYT. These unemployment durations are still lower than usual normal in most of Europe, but they are unheard of for the US. Germany's average unemployment duration has been around 40 weeks for the last decade. [I need to check the definition used for the US vs. German data...is it average duration of existing stock of unemployed or average duration at termination of unemployment? The German 40 week figure is average duration at termination of unemployment. ]
