via the Economist -- the surprise to me is how much Saudi Arabia spends. The US spends a higher fraction of GPD than all large military spenders except Saudi Arabia. (Where is Israel? Ah, it is next after Turkey, at 6.3% of GDP. And Isreal is it for developed countries that spend more than the US as a fraction of GDP on the military, all other higher spending countries are in the Middle East (Jordan, Oman, Iraq -- only barely --, UAE, Saudi Arabia) or Africa (Chad, Eritrea), or North Korea). All in all, a very low military spending world compared to the last 200 or 300 years of world history.
