I tried putting my toe in the water again and went running this afternoon. I ended up running 15 min, 1.85 miles, 8:07 min/mile. I did have some left knee area twinges, so I didn't go any further. The trail is also still to muddy to run on, very slippery and lots of deep sloppy mud. Staying injury free does seem to call for mostly running on trails.
I'll try to work up from here, with enough caution not to aggravate the injury. I should probably focus on stretchen and stengthening. Maybe time to buy some (heavy) ankle weights for leg lifts.
I do have some fear that I'm getting out of shape and that my running habit is getting destroyed.
