Bamako

I'd never heard of Bamako, at least not that I can remember, but kid #3 just asked me abou it. 

Bamako is the capital of Mali and its largest city with a population of 1.8 million.  ....The name Bamako comes from the Bambara word meaning "crocodile river". (wiki)

The climate is wetter than I would have expected, with annual precipitation of 1,120 mm or 44 inches, more than Chicago.  But I assume there is some sort of heat index geared toward plant water stress to put that number in perspective: mean temperatures are above 30 C in all months of the year.
