Some squabbling by the kids who all want to handle the bird 'now', but that may have subsided. [No, 5 min later kid #3 is flinging herself at kid #2 over access to the cockatiel.]
Better bird photography next time, I should have switched out the 85mm lens for a 50mm lens. [Ooops, this is the 50mm lens...I don't have a 35mm lens yet and the normal zoom would be, most likely, too slow for this light. ]
Update #1: the bird seems a bit passive, but I assume she'll perk up as she gets settled in. Or we have a low energy bird.
Update #2: kids do fight over the bird.
Update #3 (Sep. 25): the bird is getting much livier and is eating more. She also complains about being in her cage now. She has gotten to spend about half the day out of the cage, with millet as a snack.
Update #4: Yes, this is a human hand reared cockatiel, someting some peope do frown upon. We'll see how it turns out. Given the relative risk of having a human hand reared vs. a parent reared bird, this strikes me as the right way to go. Bird is from DJ Feathers, which appears to be a reputable breeder and which has been a good experience so far.
